Background

Sori Yanagi Was Born In Tokyo, Japan In 1915. His Father, Soetsu Yanagi, Was A Prominent Promoter Of Mingei (Japanese Folk Art). This Art Form Valued Hand-Crafted Art Of Ordinary People And Soetsu Helped To Establish The Nihon Mingeikan, The Folk Crafts Museum Of Japan.

In 1934, Sori Entered Tokyo Art School And Studied Both Art And Architecture. He Was Greatly Influenced By Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand During Their Stay In Japan In The Early 1940S. This Inspired Sori To Focus On Design And Objects Rather Than Paintings And Buildings.

After World War Ii, Sori Yanagi Designed Many Products Ranging From Furniture And Three-Wheeled Vehicles To Olympic Cauldrons And Pedestrian Overpasses. His Most Famous Design Is The Butterfly Chair, Created In 1954, As Well As His Porcelain And Silverware Series.

The Water Kettle Is Manufactured By The Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd, Which Was Founded In 1955 In Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan - A Center Of Cutlery And Steel Manufacturing.
