Background

Sori Yanagi Was Born In Tokyo, Japan In 1915 And Was Greatly Influenced By His Father Soetsu Yanagi Who Promoted Japanese Folk Art And Established The Nihon Mingeikan, The Folk Crafts Museum Of Japan. Sori Studied Art And Architecture At Tokyo Art School And Was Inspired By The Works Of Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand. After World War Ii, Sori Designed Multiple Products Such As Furniture, Three-Wheeled Vehicles And Olympic Cauldrons. His Most Iconic Design Is The Butterfly Chair From 1954. Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd Was Founded In 1955 In Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, Specialising In The Production Of Sori Yanagi-Designed Kitchenware And Tableware. These Products Feature An Ergonomic Curved Handle And Have Been Granted The Good Design Award 1998.
