Background

Sori Yanagi, Born In Tokyo In 1915, Is One Of The Most Renowned Japanese Industrial Designers. His Father, Soetsu Yanagi, Was A Promoter Of Mingei, A Japanese Folk Art That Values Hand-Crafted Art From Ordinary People. He Set Up The Nihon Mingeikan, The Folk Crafts Museum Of Japan, Which Had A Great Influence On Sori.

Sori Studied Both Art And Architecture At Tokyo Art School In 1934. He Was Inspired By The Works Of Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand, And He Soon Became More Interested In Design And Objects Rather Than Paintings And Buildings.

After World War Ii, Sori Yanagi Designed Various Products Such As Furniture, Three-Wheeled Vehicle, Olympic Cauldron, And Pedestrian Overpass. His Most Famous Designs Include The Butterfly Chair Of 1954, And A Porcelain And Silverware Series.

Sori'S Kitchenware And Tableware Are Manufactured By Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd, Based In Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. This City Is The Center Of Cutlery And Steel Manufacturing, Making It The Perfect Place To Produce Sori Yanagi'S Designs.
