Background

Sori Yanagi Was Born In Tokyo, Japan In 1915. His Father, Soetsu Yanagi, Was A Promoter Of Mingei (Japanese Folk Art), Which Valued Hand-Crafted Art Of Ordinary People And Discovered Beauty In Everyday Ordinary Objects. He Was Also Instrumental In The Establishment Of The Nihon Mingeikan, The Folk Crafts Museum Of Japan.

Sori Studied Art And Architecture At Tokyo Art School In 1934. He Was Inspired By Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand'S Work In Japan In The Early 1940S, Which Led Him To Focus More On Design And Objects Than Painting And Architecture.

Sori Designed Many Products After World War Ii, Including Furniture, Three-Wheeled Vehicles, Olympic Cauldrons, And Pedestrian Overpasses. His Most Famous Design Is The Water Kettle From 1954, Which Also Included The Butterfly Chair And A Porcelain And Silverware Series.

Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd Was Founded In 1955 In Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. It Is The Center Of Cutlery And Steel Manufacturing And Produces Most Of Sori Yanagi'S Kitchenware And Tableware.
