背景
柳宗理は1915年に日本の東京で生まれました。彼の父である柳宗悦は日本の民藝の創始者であり、民藝運動としても知られています。彼は日本民藝館の設立を支援しました。柳宗理は東京美術学校で美術と建築の両方を学び、ル・コルビュジエとシャルロット・ペリアンから大きな影響を受けました。第二次世界大戦後、彼は家具、三輪車、オリンピック聖火台、歩道橋など、多くの製品を設計しました。
柳宗理の最も有名なデザインは、1954年のバタフライチェア、陶磁器、銀器シリーズを含むウォーターケトルです。キッチンウェアとテーブルウェアは、新潟県燕市のニホンヨシッキ株式会社によって製造されています。
