Background

The Renowned Japanese Designer Sori Yanagi Was Born In Tokyo In 1915. His Father Was Soetsu Yanagi, Who Dedicated Himself To The Promotion Of Mingei (Japanese Folk Art), A Movement That Valued Handcrafted Art From Ordinary People And Saw Beauty In Everyday Objects. With His Help, The Nihon Mingeikan Folk Crafts Museum Of Japan Was Established.

In 1934, Sori Yanagi Entered Tokyo Art School To Study Both Art And Architecture. His Admiration For Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand, Who Worked In Japan In The Early 1940S, Caused Him To Focus More On Design And Objects Instead Of Paintings And Buildings. After Wwii, Sori Yanagi Designed Many Products Such As Furniture, Three-Wheeled Vehicles, Olympic Cauldrons, And Pedestrian Overpasses. He Is Renowned For His Water Kettle Design And His Butterfly Chair From 1954, As Well As His Porcelain And Silverware Series.
