背景
柳宗理は1915年に日本の東京で生まれました。彼の父である柳宗悦は、民藝（日本の民俗芸術）の普及における重要な人物であり、日本民藝館の設立を支援しました。宗理はル・コルビュジエとシャルロット・ペリアンに触発され、1934年に東京美術学校に入学すると、絵画や建物よりもデザインやオブジェクトに興味を持つようになりました。
