Features
柳宗理ウォーターケトルは、日本で最も有名なデザイナーの一人によって作成された象徴的なデザインです。ニューヨーク近代美術館やパリのルーブル美術館などの有名な美術館で作品が紹介されており、1998年にグッドデザイン賞、2013年にグッドデザイン・ロングライフデザイン賞を受賞したのも当然です。

Background
柳宗理は1915年に東京で生まれました。彼の父、柳宗悦は、民藝（日本の民俗芸術）の著名な推進者でした。この芸術形式は、一般の人々の手作りの芸術を高く評価し、宗悦は日本民藝館の設立を支援しました。
1934年、宗理は東京美術学校に入学し、美術と建築の両方を学びました。彼は1940年代初頭のル・コルビュジエとシャルロット・ペリアンの日本滞在中に大きな影響を受けました。これがきっかけで、宗理は絵画や建物よりもデザインやオブジェクトに焦点を当てるようになりました。
第二次世界大戦後、柳宗理は家具や三輪車からオリンピックの大釜や歩道橋まで、多くの製品を設計しました。彼の最も有名なデザインは、1954年に作成されたバタフライチェアと、彼の磁器および銀器シリーズです。
このウォーターケトルは、1955年に日本の新潟県燕市（刃物と鉄鋼の製造の中心地）で設立されたニホンヨシッキ株式会社によって製造されています。
