Sori Yanagi Was Born In Tokyo, Japan In 1915. His Father Soetsu Yanagi Was A Promoter Of Mingei (Japanese Folk Art), Which Valued Hand-Crafted Art Of Ordinary People And Discovered Beauty In Everyday Objects. Soetsu'S Work Helped To Establish The Nihon Mingeikan, The Folk Crafts Museum Of Japan.

Yanagi Studied Art And Architecture At Tokyo Art School In 1934, And Was Inspired By Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand, Who Worked In Japan In The Early 1940S. This Encouraged Him To Focus On Design And Objects More Than Paintings And Buildings.

After World War Ii, Yanagi Designed Many Products, Including Furniture, Three-Wheeled Vehicles, The Olympic Cauldron, Pedestrian Overpasses, And The Water Kettle. He Also Created The Butterfly Chair In 1954 And A Porcelain And Silverware Series.
