Background

Sori Yanagi Was Born In Tokyo, Japan In 1915. He Was The Son Of Soetsu Yanagi, Who Was A Proponent Of “Mingei (Japanese Folk Art)”, And Who Helped To Establish The Nihon Mingeikan, The Folk Crafts Museum Of Japan. Sori Studied Art And Architecture At The Tokyo Art School, And Soon Developed An Interest In Design, Furniture, Vehicle, Cauldron, And Pedestrian Overpass Design. He Is Particularly Known For His Iconic 1954 Butterfly Chair, As Well As His Porcelain And Silverware Series. His Kitchenware And Tableware Are Now Produced By Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd In Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan.
