Background

The Renowned Japanese Designer Sori Yanagi Was Born In Tokyo In 1915. His Father Soetsu Yanagi Was A Driving Force In The Promotion Of Mingei, The Art Of Japanese Folk Crafts. He Also Established The Nihon Mingeikan, The Folk Crafts Museum Of Japan.

Sori Studied Art And Architecture At Tokyo Art School In 1934 And Was Further Influenced By The Works Of Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand. This Inspired Him To Focus On Design And Objects Rather Than Paintings And Buildings.

Post-World War Ii, Sori Yanagi Designed Many Products Including Furniture, A Three-Wheeled Vehicle, An Olympic Cauldron, And A Pedestrian Overpass. His Most Famous Design Is The Butterfly Chair, Created In 1954, As Well As His Porcelain And Silverware Series.

Sori Yanagi’S Designs Are Produced By Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd, Based In Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan. This Is The Centre Of Cutlery And Steel Manufacturing In The Country.
