Background

Sori Yanagi Was Born In Tokyo, Japan In 1915 To Soetsu Yanagi, The Founder Of “Mingei (Japanese Folk Art)”. Yanagi Studied Art And Architecture At Tokyo Art School And Upon Meeting Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand In The Early 1940S, Shifted His Focus To Design And Objects. His Range Of Designs Over The Years Include Furniture, Three-Wheeled Vehicle, Olympic Cauldron, And Pedestrian Overpass. He Also Designed A Range Of Kitchenware And Tableware That Have Been Manufactured By Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd Since 1955.

One Of His Most Famous Designs, The Butterfly Chair, Was Awarded The Good Design Award In 2002. Constructed With Extra Thick Cast Iron For Even And Efficient Heat Conduction, The Water Kettle Is A Timeless Design Piece That Is Still Appreciated Today.
