Background

Sori Yanagi Was Born In Tokyo, Japan In 1915. His Father, Soetsu Yanagi, Was A Pioneer In The Development Of Japanese Folk Art, Which Focused On Handmade Pieces And Celebrated The Beauty Of Ordinary Objects. Soetsu Also Helped To Establish The Nihon Mingeikan, The Japanese Folk Crafts Museum.

In 1934, Sori Attended Tokyo Art School, Where He Studied Art And Architecture. During This Time, He Was Greatly Influenced By Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand, Which Led Him To Be More Interested In Design And Objects. After World War Ii, He Designed Many Products Such As Furniture, A Three-Wheeled Vehicle, An Olympic Cauldron, And A Pedestrian Bridge.

Sori Yanagi'S Most Famous Designs Include The Butterfly Chair From 1954 And His Series Of Porcelain And Silverware. Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd, Located In Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, Manufactures Most Of His Kitchenware And Tableware.
