We sprayed a synthetic sweat solution comprised of warm water and horse oil after ten minutes. The amount of mascara that was deposited onto the cotton pad was then measured as we removed it using a cotton pad. Each product was given a grade between 1.0 and 5.0, with a product receiving a perfect score if no mascara was detected on the cotton pad.

The finish of each waterproof mascara was the next thing we examined. Beginners were asked to apply two coats of mascara to their eyelashes before our qualified, skilled hair and makeup artist Rika Fujiwara evaluated the results. Each product received a score between 1 to 5, with full marks going to mascaras that were able to perfectly separate all lashes without becoming clumpy.

• Ease of Removal

We tested how easy each waterproof mascara was to remove. We had three testers wear the waterproof mascara for a full day, where they would remove it at the end of the day. Finally, we tested how each waterproof mascara felt to use. We had three testers use each mascara and had them evaluate the following four points:

How easy it was to apply

How quick the mascara dried

How easy it was to carry

We then graded each mascara on a scale from 1.0 to 5.0. The products that were easy to open and close, easy to apply, quick to dry, and easy to carry around were rated highly in this test.
