Sori Yanagi'S Designs Are Renowned For Their Timeless Elegance And Comfortable Grip. His Works Have Received Various Awards, Including The Good Design Award 2001. Sori Yanagi Was Born In Tokyo, Japan In 1915. His Father, Soetsu Yanagi, Was A Major Proponent Of Mingei, Or Japanese Folk Art, Which Valued The Hand-Crafted Creations Of Ordinary People And Celebrated Beauty In Everyday Objects. Soetsu Helped To Establish The Nihon Mingeikan, A Folk Crafts Museum In Japan. In 1934, Sori Entered Tokyo Art School, Where He Studied Art And Architecture. He Was Inspired By Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand, And Became More Interested In Design And Objects Rather Than Paintings And Buildings. After World War Ii, Sori Designed A Variety Of Products Including Furniture, A Three-Wheeled Vehicle, The Olympic Cauldron, And A Pedestrian Overpass. One Of His Most Famous Designs Was The Butterfly Chair From 1954, And He Also Created A Porcelain And Silverware Series. The Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd, Based In Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Is The Official Manufacturer Of Most Of Sori Yanagi’S Kitchen And Tableware.
