Sori Yanagi Was Born In Tokyo, Japan In 1915. His Father, Soetsu Yanagi, Was A Prominent Figure In The Promotion Of “Mingei (Japanese Folk Art)”, Which Valued Hand-Crafted Art Of Ordinary People. He Also Helped To Establish The Nihon Mingeikan, The Folk Crafts Museum Of Japan. Sori Yanagi Went On To Study Both Art And Architecture At Tokyo Art School In 1934, And He Was Deeply Influenced By The Modernist Philosophies Of Le Corbusier And Charlotte Perriand.

After World War Ii, Sori Yanagi Designed Many Products Such As Furniture, Three-Wheeled Vehicles, Olympic Cauldrons, And Pedestrian Overpasses. His Most Famous Designs Include The Butterfly Chair, Released In 1954, And A Series Of Porcelain And Silverware Pieces. Nihon Yoshokki Co Ltd Was Founded In 1955 In Tsubame City, Niigata Prefecture, Japan, And The Company Manufactures Most Of Sori Yanagi’S Kitchenware And Tableware.
